Do you Find Yourself Keeping Score With Your Partner?

Do You Find Yourself Keeping Score with Your Partner?

Is a relationship 50/50 on a daily basis?  Do you find yourself keeping score to be sure you are getting your fair amount of attention, love, and caring? Often I talk with couples and I take my finger and put it in the air and make a slash mark.  They ask me what I am doing and I tell them they are keeping score with one another.  All of a sudden they understand and then we have something to talk about.

Of course, we all have needs and desires which we want met and taken seriously.  But can anyone ever truly have a 50/50 relationship on a daily basis?

The way I like to think about it is that in my lifetime or on an annual basis, if we averaged it out, the two partners would each see that they had their share of what they needed.

In daily life, we cannot determine many events that happen to us.  One of us may be ill and need more attention and care for a period of time. Later, the other partner may be going through a very difficult situation at work, (possibly fear of losing one’s job), and need more confirmation of who they are and receiving loving attention and caring.

What happens if we keep score?  This may seem a bit ridiculous, but I have actually seen couples do this. They keep score and if they feel they have not had their fair share they become resentful and when they other one really needs them, they are not there for them.

For me, a relationship is about honoring who my partner is and uplifting him in any I can, be it spiritually, emotional, psychologically, or physically.  Because of who he is I am so happy to be his wife and I want to do anything I can to help him in his times of need. Notice, I did not say rescuing, but assisting where he is truly unable, for the moment, to do all he can for himself.

If you are keeping score and waiting for your turn, you may wait for a long time. As your resentment and bitterness festers, the relationship gets pushed on the back burner. Talk to each other, help one another. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable. Try to truly give of yourself without expecting anything in return.

If both of you can turn this corner and have a happier and fulfilling relationship, there is nothing like it. And you need some help, consider counseling. It can really help.

Is It Still Safe to Take Cruises?

Is It Still Safe to Take Cruise?

Yes, it is safe. When the Costa Concordia had the shipwreck, earlier this year, many began asking questions. There have been some other mishaps on ships, grounding, engine fires, but for the most part, they are handled well and don’t happen very often. 16.3 million passengers travel every year. I myself have been on 20 cruises, never a mishap. According the U.S. Coastguard, cruising continues to be “extremely safe.” The Concordia incident was blamed on the Captain, who followed some procedures not authorized and not considered safe.

Since the accident, some new safety practices have been implemented. Now, a muster drill (lifeboat drill) must be done before leaving port.  On every voyage I have been on, we always did this drill before sailing. Ships which sale from U.S. ports tend to have a higher standard and more checks by the Coast Guard than other nations. Although, I hope that changes.

Here are some Things You Can Do to Have a Safe Voyage

1. Attend all safety briefings.

2. Study evacuation routes on the back of your cabin door.

3. Know where your life jacket is stowed.

4. If you have medication, take it in a carry on case. If your other bags are lost by the airline, at least your have your medications.

5. To avoid illness such as shipboard norovirus, wash your hands frequently, and use hand sanitizers provided around the ship. This is just common sense and has not ruined my good times at all.

Will Wall Street like Facebook? IPO timing may be a mistake, when looking at maturity of sector in emerging economies.

Is Facebook making a mistake going public?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the IPO for Facebook will be between April very soon and that the valuation will be around 200 billion with 10% of that raised in initial stock sales.

This is going to pose some interesting challenges for the worlds largest social network and I think will slow down response times. As Facebook Faces cross cutlural social media challenges I really look for hyper local companies that have more flexibility to benefit. Facebook doesn’t need the capital so it almost begs the question; why go public?

Sure $10 billion or so it alot of extra money to play around with but do they really need it NOW is the fundamental question?

What will the Facebook IPO price per share be

The future is the present; sociology, TV, and new frontier of entertainment sharing!

What a fascinating crossroads the United States and most of the Western world is now at as technology and sharing of entertainment; that which is usually reserved for our personal time, has finally merged with out social time.

It’s only once board rooms start to hug psychologists and socioligists sit in with venture capitalist firms that we’ll all have a party and recognize the direction we are going in, is a direction we should push even harder for. Certainly reasonable controls must be put into place to protect hollywoods patents and the intellectual property rights of all, but S.O.P.A. and P.I.P.A. clearly have no traction and most anyone can tell that there is no way back from the place we were before.

Google is now poised to begin taking over productions of TV shows and the new distribution channels seem clearly on the cusp of becoming mainstream. Will creativity suffer? Of course not. We only merely need to look at the historical record to see that there is always a path forward for marketing the arts. Will the business models change? Yes, they already have? What does today’s paper say about this? Chances are you aren’t reading it…..actually chances are you are not sure what the local newpaper is even called in a growing number of US cities.
